Title
Guía para el desarrollo y la validación de las actividades profesionales a confiar
Description:
"Competency-based Education (CBE) or outcome-based education has spread worldwide in recent decades. Competencies must be inferred from the observable performances of students or residents; this observation provides the basis for their assessment to ensure that these competencies have been acquired. CBE should ensure that the most relevant ones are achieved by the end of the training period. In this context, Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs)- based curricula have been developed as a more explicit and transparent way of operationalizing training outcomes. EPAs concept implies a programmatic assessment that considers a progressive process of decreasing supervision as the student or resident becomes more competent in each of the selected activities. This article aims to provide a guide and orientation in Spanish language, facilitating the methodological design of undergraduate and postgraduate training programs. The guide includes the definition of EPAs and their characteristics, a description of the developmental process in stages, and how to find them in the literature. "

An update on the novel approaches towards skills assessment of ophthalmology residents
Description:
Assessment is an important aspect of training as it is one of the tools that give feedback to the learner and helps the teacher modify the training process. Summative assessments aid in understanding the proficiency of the resident at the end of the period of residency, while formative assessment provides us with an opportunity to change the teaching method considering each student’s progress. There are a variety of tools that assess the diverse skills that a resident is expected to acquire during his/her residency.

Title
A novel smartphone assisted model for resident surgical training
Description:
Wet lab sessions during residency play an important role in developing the surgical skills of trainee residents. However, establishing a wet lab requires funds and equipment. Moreover, they might not be accessible to all the residents. The smartphone magnifying lens can magnify the images 8-10 times, sufficient to practice suturing techniques. Hereby, we describe a novel model for resident surgical training using a smartphone.
